Burning Man: The good, the bad, and the ugly

Burning Man: The good, the bad, and the ugly

Every year, the Burning Man festival transforms the Black Rock Desert in Nevada into a temporary city populated by thousands of artists, performers, and attendees. The week-long event is dedicated to self-expression and creativity, with a focus on community and collaboration. This year is it being held from Aug 28 - Sept 5th.

The origins of Burning Man can be traced back to 1986, when a group of friends burned an effigy on San Francisco's Baker Beach. The following year, they moved the event to the Black Rock Desert and named it "Burning Man." Attendance grew steadily over the years, and by 1997 the event had reached its current size. Today, it is one of the largest festivals in the world, with more than 70,000 attendees, albeit having not run the previous few years due to covid. The event features a variety of large art installations, unique interactive performances and a number of unique traditions including the burning of the man effigy.

Some famous installation from past years are the "Sea of Dreams" by Android Jones. It's a huge, lit-up octopus that's really impressive to see in person. Another popular installation is the "Temple of Transition" by Mark Pauline. It's a large structure made out of metal beams and mesh, and it's meant to be a place for people to reflect on their lives. The messages left written on the walls are a great personal touch. Finally, there's the "Burning Man Temple" by David Best. This one is always a big draw, because it's the place where people go to burn their personal belongings as part of the ceremony. It's a really powerful experience to be there when it happens.

The festival is so popular because it is a unique and transformative experience that allows participants to escape the realities of their everyday lives. At Burning Man, people are free to be themselves and to explore new ideas and concepts without judgement. The community that forms is supportive and inclusive, and everyone is welcome to join in the fun. Additionally, the creative energy at the festival is unparalleled, and there is something for everyone to enjoy. Whether you are a first-time participant or a veteran burner, Burning Man is sure to leave you feeling inspired.

The festival is always home to some funky and crazy moments. Some of the craziest things that happened at Burning Man this include, someone dressed as an inflatable tube man was run over by a car, a group of ravers took over a golf course and turned it into a dance party. A 50-foot-tall penis out of metal and lights was erected, and a fire was set to a $9,000 art installation made out of bamboo.

The desert landscape at Burning Man is a beautiful and awe-inspiring sight. It's hard to believe that such an otherworldly place exists in the middle of the Nevada desert, but there it is, stretching out before you in all its glory. The playa is vast and empty, with nothing but the occasional tent or art installation dotting the horizon. The sky is a deep, dark blue, and the sunsets are stunning. The temperatures can be a bit harsh during the day, but at night the air is cool and refreshing. If you're lucky, you'll get to see a dust storm brewing on the horizon. These storms can be quite spectacular, with swirls of red and orange stretching out across the desert.

If you're looking to add a touch of fashion to your Burning Man look, there are a few things to keep in mind. For one, the event takes place in the desert, so it's important to choose clothes that are light and airy but protect you from the harsh climate. You'll also want to avoid wearing anything that might snag on bushes or thorns. In terms of style, it's best to go for something creative and eclectic. Think about incorporating elements of your local culture into your outfit, or using bright colors and patterns. And don't forget about accessories! A cool headdress or necklace can really add personality to your look. Whatever you decide to wear, make sure you have fun with it and let your personality shine through. Burning Man is all about self-expression, so don't be afraid to stand out from the crowd.

Apart from creative outfits, simple items like T-shirts are a must-have, and there are plenty of great options out there. We are proud to make a beautiful desert inspired tee, which has been our best seller since we came out with it years ago.
